In 2015, the former Premier Mike Baird promised not to spend more than $600 Million fixing Sydney’s stadia.  Three years later the budget has blown out to $2.7 Billion, with the powerful SCG Trust having convinced the Berejiklian government to knock down and rebuild the Sydney Football Stadium at Moore Park to the tune of nearly a billion dollars.  This includes $316 Million to relocate tenants during construction works.

Yet despite the business case not staking up, the project was approved during the pre-election period by the Minister for Planning, Anthony Roberts.  The general consensus among communities is that there are far bigger priorities than demolish a 30-year-old award winning stadium that could be fixed for hundreds of millions less.

In response, the Opposition has promised to redirect the funds to schools and hospitals if elected. News 'that deficiencies in the planning approval for the demolition may leave it open to legal challenge' (Media Release 22 Dec 2018) has only added weight to the urgency to #stopthedemolition.

With the NSW government looking to fast-track demolition before the upcoming March state election, the media is reporting that the bulldozers are moving on site on Tuesday, 8 January - before the mandatory community consultative committee is even in place.

If you like us are outraged, Message Your MP asking what will they do to #stopthedemolition before the election.
